They aren’t exactly elusive creatures, and if they were there folks would see them daily, sunning on banks and downed logs. It would be in The State paper at some point over the last decade. Also, unless several alligators were put there by humans, they would have to come up through the lower Saluda River which they simply cannot tolerate that cold water – then they would have to walk up the old rocky spillway because they cant scale the dam wall and they would have to cross Hwy 6 dam because they can’t scale the spillway wall AND THEN they would have walk down into the SCEG swimming area through through the parking lot to enter the lake.
